Stone worktops do not need much care daily. However for the stone worktops to preserve long some simple maintenance techniques should be borne in mind.
- Clean the stains on stone promptly, do not let the soiling substances absorb into stone or dry up. Be especially careful as regards juice, coffee, oil, acidic fruit, fat or red wine (alcohol) getting on stone. Should it happen, wipe the stains up with paper-towel and wash with neutral detergent diluted in water.
- Avoid scratching the stone, do not hammer on the stone – use the cutting board. The weakest spots of the stone worktop are front and back edge of sink and stove, avoid placing weights thereon. Use heat-resistant stands. Although granite is heat proof, you may damage the mirror finish of stone. Technistone (quartz) is not heat-proof, therefore a heat-resistant stand is a must.
Maintenance of granite worktops
Granite worktops are wear-proof and demand little maintenance. Use for granite worktops neutral (pH 7), slightly acidic (pH 4 - 6), or slightly alkaline detergents (pH 8 – 10). Do not use abrasive, super-acidic or discolouring detergents. For everyday cleaning, use a damp cloth and non-abrasive cleaning agents. To reduce absorption, the light-colour granite surfaces should be impregnated with special impregnation agent designed for granite, doing it every 1-2 years.
Maintenance of Technistone (quartz) worktops
Granite hardboard is practically maintenance-free material when indoors. The surfaces of granite hardboard can do with neutral (pH 7), slightly acidic (pH 4 - 6), or slightly alkaline detergents (pH 8 – 10). For everyday cleaning, use a damp cloth and non-abrasive cleaning agents. The Technistone is not fully heat-proof. Therefore use heat-resistant stands for placing hot objects of worktop, to avoid damaging the surface.
Hot objects must not be placed directly on worktops of materials of the Starlight series of Technistone, even temporarily.
Maintenance of marble worktops
For daily maintenance we recommend using plain water, and micro fibre cloth. Acidic detergents must not be used to clean marble. Do not use abrasive, acidic or discolouring detergents! If rinsing with water is not enough, use a neutral pH-level agent or an agent, specially designed to maintain marble. We also recommend impregnating the marble worktops every 1-2 years, depending on the rate of use, to reduce its absorption capacity.
